Fitness Center North reopens in Birmingham’s Smithfield Community

After extensive renovations, Fitness Center North in Birmingham’s Smithfield Community has officially reopened, offering upgraded facilities and new exercise equipment for residents.

The fitness center, located at 421 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd, directly across from Parker High School, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month with city leaders and community members in attendance.

Renovations and Upgrades

The renovations were funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), with contributions from District 5 Councilor Darrell O’Quinn and former District 8 Councilor Carol Clarke, each providing $50,000 toward state-of-the-art exercise equipment.

City officials also addressed long-standing facility needs, including updates to the roofing and flooring, ensuring the building meets modern standards for safety and comfort.

Supporting Health and Community

The upgraded Fitness Center North now offers modern equipment and a welcoming space for residents of all ages. City leaders say the renovations will help promote physical health, community engagement, and long-term use of the facility.
With these improvements, Fitness Center North is poised to remain a central hub for wellness and recreation in West Birmingham for years to come.
