Traffic changes on I-59 in Trussville to last up to months

Drivers in Trussville should expect major traffic changes on northbound I-59 beginning Tuesday. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) says this next phase of construction could continue for up to three months.

Key Traffic Changes

  • ALDOT warns motorists of three main adjustments along northbound I-59:
  • Northbound I-59 at I-459 will be reduced to one lane just past the junction.
  • Vehicles merging from U.S. 11 onto I-459 will not be able to access southbound I-59 toward Birmingham.
  • Traffic from northbound I-459 to northbound I-59 will also drop to one lane.

Upcoming Ramp Closures

Later this spring, ALDOT plans to close both ramps on northbound I-59 at Chalkville Mountain Road for about 40 days.
Drivers are encouraged to plan extra travel time and use alternate routes where possible while construction is underway.
