DeVinci’s Italian Restaurant, one of the longest-running Italian restaurants in area, will permanently close on August 10, according to a public announcement made by the owner.
Decades of Service in Homewood
The restaurant, located at 2707 18th Street South, has served the Homewood community since 1965. Founded by Fred Koetter, the business was later operated by his son, Ron “Hap” Koetter, before transitioning to John and Catherine Day in the 1980s. The Days have maintained the location for more than 40 years.
A Local Brand with Citywide Reach
DeVinci’s was known for its Sicilian-style pizzas and signature “Mona Lisa” pie, topped with sausage, pepperoni, ground beef, and ham. At its peak, the restaurant expanded into several franchise locations across Birmingham, though only the original Homewood storefront remained a long-term fixture.
Transition Ahead for Prime Homewood Property
In a recent social media announcement, owner John Day confirmed the building would be turned over to a new owner, though no details have been released about future tenants or plans for the space. The closure comes amid broader turnover in downtown Homewood’s business landscape, following announcements from other longtime retailers.
