Birmingham named among the most affordable U.S. travel spots

A new study by Dunhill Travel Deals has ranked Birmingham among the top 100 most affordable destinations in the country for family vacations.

 

Affordable Travel Costs

 

The report estimates that a four-night trip for a family of four to Birmingham costs about $4,852, or $1,624 per person. Airfare averages $588 per traveler, while lodging comes in at $504 per room. Meals are estimated at $320 per person, and rental cars add roughly $212. Overall, Birmingham’s service costs are 1.3% below the national average, helping families save compared to other major cities.

 

History, Culture, and Southern Hospitality

 

Birmingham offers a blend of civil rights history, cultural attractions, and southern hospitality without the high price tag. Visitors can explore landmarks like the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, enjoy walkable neighborhoods, and dine at local restaurants known for both quality and affordability. The city’s arts scene and green spaces also add value for travelers looking for a well-rounded trip.

 

Standing Out Nationally

 

Ranked No. 75 on Dunhill’s list, Birmingham joins Mobile as one of two Alabama cities recognized for affordability in 2025. The study highlights that southern and midwestern cities continue to dominate the rankings, offering travelers cost-effective alternatives to pricier destinations.
