BirminghamWatch pauses publication over funding gap

BirminghamWatch has announced a temporary pause in regular publication due to a shortfall in its recent emergency fundraising campaign.

Although the nonprofit newsroom secured $9,795 in donations and commitments, it did not reach the minimum goal of $25,000 needed to maintain operations through the arrival of a grant expected in October. The overall campaign had set a $50,000 target.

Limited Content to Continue

As a result, BirminghamWatch will suspend regular publishing until at least September 2, 2025. However, the organization still released one final story for its ElectionWatch 2025 coverage. Additionally, the team is working to complete a voter guide for Birmingham’s municipal elections on August 26.

That guide will be shared through the BirminghamWatch website, email newsletter, and social media platforms in the coming days.

A Call for Continued Support

Executive Director André Natta encouraged readers to continue supporting the outlet. “If you have even a few dollars to spare, your contribution could help us return to reporting sooner than expected,” he said.

He also emphasized the value of spreading the word. “Sharing our stories with others helps us grow our visibility in the city.
