Customers are searching for answers after a longtime downtown Birmingham shoe repair business appears to have shut down without warning, leaving personal and high-value items behind.
What happened to Quality Shoe Repair
Quality Shoe Repair, a familiar presence downtown for years, appears to have closed suddenly. Customers report finding the shop locked and empty, with no signage explaining a closure or move. Online listings now show the business as permanently closed, and the phone number associated with the shop has been disconnected.
Customers left without their belongings
Among those affected is Suebee Cardenas, who says she dropped off nearly $4,000 worth of luxury shoes in late December and was told the repairs would take about a week. When she returned to pick them up, she found the doors locked and no way to contact the business.
As time passed, Cardenas said she continued stopping by the location and encountered other customers arriving with similar concerns. Many were searching for shoes, bags and other items they had left for repair, some of which hold significant sentimental value.
Frustration and unanswered questions
Customers say the lack of communication has been the most upsetting part of the experience. Several questioned why no notice was posted about a closure or relocation, or why the business phone line was disconnected rather than updated with information.
While some people in the area have suggested the shop may have relocated elsewhere downtown, that information has not been confirmed. For now, customers say they remain unsure where their belongings are or how to recover them.
