The popular Piggly Wiggly grocery store on Montgomery Highway in Homewood has temporarily closed as construction begins on a large-scale redevelopment project.
Renovation Plans
The renovation will significantly expand and modernize the longtime neighborhood grocery store. Planned improvements include additional interior space, expanded parking, improved traffic flow, and the addition of a green space as part of the overall redesign.
City officials say the project represents a long-anticipated update to one of Homewood’s most recognizable retail landmarks.
Reopening Timeline
According to Homewood Mayor Jennifer Andress, the store is expected to reopen by the end of 2026. No specific construction milestones or phased reopening plans have been announced.
Community Impact
The Homewood Piggly Wiggly has long served as a staple grocery destination for residents and nearby neighborhoods. During the closure, customers will need to shop at nearby grocery stores until the redevelopment is complete.
Once finished, the updated store is expected to improve access, safety, and the overall shopping experience while maintaining its role as a community-focused grocery option in Homewood.
