The Birmingham Youth & Young Adult Fellowship Choir is returning home after wowing national audiences with their Golden Buzzer performance on NBC’s America’s Got Talent. The group will host a back-to-school and benefit concert on Sunday afternoon at Sixteenth Street Baptist Church.
From National Stage to Local Spotlight
The choir captured hearts across the country earlier this month when their powerful performance earned them a Golden Buzzer and a spot in the next round of the competition. Now, Birmingham audiences will get the chance to experience the group live at the 3:30 p.m. event.
A Decade of Dedication
Founded by Ramsay High School graduate Ahkeem Lee, the choir began as a one-time project but has grown into a decade-long commitment. “It’s been 10 years of a lot of hard work, a lot of dedication, a lot of sacrifice,” Lee said. “The choir was founded originally as a one-time thing but God had other plans, and 10 years later we are still here.” Several choir members are current Birmingham City Schools students, continuing the group’s deep ties to the community.
Recognition Across Birmingham
The choir’s success has been celebrated throughout the city. Their image now appears on a digital billboard along Red Mountain Expressway, and they have been recognized by both Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and the City Council. “You represented the Magic City so well on the national stage,” Woodfin wrote in a social media post. The group will return to America’s Got Talent in September for the next round of competition.
