MAX Transit teams up with UAB free clinic to boost healthcare access

The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority, which operates MAX Transit, has formed a new partnership with Equal Access Birmingham to break down transportation barriers in the city.

750 Bus Passes Kick Off Transportation Initiative

MAX Transit donated 750 bus passes to help Equal Access Birmingham launch its Transportation Initiative. With this program, uninsured, underinsured, and unhoused patients can attend medical appointments, pick up prescriptions, and reach critical treatments.

Transit Leaders Stress the Impact

“Transportation is essential to ensuring equitable access to healthcare, and we are honored to help EAB’s patients reach lifesaving services,” said Charlotte Shaw, BJCTA Executive Director and CEO. “At BJCTA, our mission extends beyond transportation. We remain committed to building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.”

Equal Access Birmingham Expands Its Reach

Equal Access Birmingham, a student-run free clinic at UAB, depends heavily on community partners. Julia Mamana, the clinic’s Head Communication Officer, said this collaboration strengthens their mission. “We are so thankful for the support of MAX Transit. This donation helps us make healthcare more affordable and more accessible for Birmingham families.”

With this initiative, BJCTA and Equal Access Birmingham move one step closer to ensuring healthcare access for the city’s most vulnerable residents.
