Averitt is ending its nearly 30-year logistics partnership with Mercedes-Benz in Vance, a move that will affect almost 200 employees.
Contract Conclusion After Decades
The trucking and logistics company announced that its dedicated contract with Mercedes-Benz will conclude on December 31. Averitt cited an inability to agree on contract terms as the reason for ending the partnership, which has been in place since 1996.
Impact on Workforce
The closure will impact positions ranging from drivers to administrative and leadership roles. Averitt said it is working to ensure a smooth transition for affected employees, including offering opportunities within its broader network and providing financial assistance for those transferring to other positions.
Continuing Operations in West Alabama
Despite the contract ending, Averitt plans to maintain and grow its transportation and logistics services in Tuscaloosa. A company spokesperson emphasized its commitment to providing innovative solutions to local shippers and supporting team members through the transition. Mercedes-Benz declined to comment on the specifics of the contract.
