Red Sea Ethiopian Restaurant closes in Homewood, new eatery prepares to move in

Red Sea Ethiopian, located in Red Mountain Plaza at 22 Green Springs Highway, has permanently closed, marking the end of Ethiopian cuisine in Birmingham. The closure leaves only a “coming soon” banner for the next restaurant at the location.

Birmingham’s Last Ethiopian Spot Shutters

Red Sea Ethiopian was the final place for Ethiopian food in the city after Ghion Cultural Hall at The Pizitz closed in 2019. The restaurant’s departure occurred quietly, leaving the community saddened by the sudden loss.

Ali Basha Set to Open

Signage at the former Red Sea location announces Ali Basha, a Mediterranean food truck from Fultondale, will move into a brick-and-mortar space. The new restaurant will expand its reach beyond the food truck, bringing Mediterranean favorites to a fixed location.

What to Expect from Ali Basha

Ali Basha serves schawarma, gyros, Basha bowls, pita wraps, smash burgers, and fries. As the opening date approaches, Bham Now will provide updates about the new restaurant’s debut.
