The city of Chelsea is expanding its retail offerings with a new Target store approved for an upcoming shopping center, The Shoppes at Chelsea.
Incentives Approved for Target
On December 2, the Chelsea City Council approved a multi-million-dollar incentive package for Target. The agreement includes a $15 million sales tax abatement, giving Target 30% of sales tax revenue up to $15 million for up to 20 years, whichever comes first.
Details of The Shoppes at Chelsea
The new 20.31-acre shopping center, developed by GBT Realty, will feature:
- A 128,667-square-foot Target as the anchor tenant
- Two smaller retail spaces (10,000 sq. ft. and 6,000 sq. ft.)
- Five ~3,500-square-foot shops
- 765 parking spaces
- Two outparcels along Chelsea Corners Way
Timeline and Community Impact
Chelsea Mayor Cody Sumners stated the development could open by late 2027 or early 2028 if all goes according to plan. The Shoppes at Chelsea is part of the city’s broader growth, following other recent commercial and dining expansions along U.S. Highway 280.
