A Birmingham teen is turning her literary success into a way to give back.
Giving Back Through Creativity
Sixteen-year-old author Callie Chapman has donated $20,000 to Children’s of Alabama to help fund art supplies for patients. The Mountain Brook native, best known for her Glitter the Unicorn children’s book series, said she hopes the donation inspires young people to embrace creativity and kindness.
In addition to her financial gift, Chapman has provided copies of her books to Alabama Family Courts, offering comfort to children during family transitions.
National Recognition
Chapman recently received her second New York City Big Book Award for Glitter the Unicorn Loves to Color on the Moon. Her previous book, Glitter the Unicorn Loves to Color at the Beach, was also honored in 2024. The recognition even earned her a feature on a Times Square billboard celebrating her achievement.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Chapman began writing at age 9 and continues to visit schools and hospitals to encourage young readers to “dream big.” Her mother, Bronwyne, illustrates the series and said her daughter’s generosity and dedication to others reflect the message behind her books.
