Reminder: Birmingham cooling stations open this season

With a heat advisory in effect and temperatures continuing to rise, the City of Birmingham is reminding residents about local cooling stations.

Free Water and Relief from the Heat

Each location offers a cool, safe environment where residents can escape the extreme heat. Free bottled water is also available to help people stay hydrated during the hottest parts of the day.

The Birmingham Public Library Central Branch, at 2100 Park Place, is open Mondays and Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Southside Branch, at 1814 11th Avenue South, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Faith Chapel Care Center, located at 921 2nd Avenue North, is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Firehouse Ministries, located at 626 2nd Avenue North, offers cooling services from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Mobile Cooling Assistance

Food for Our Journey also provides mobile relief downtown. Its team offers water and supplies at stops including 4th Avenue North and 23rd Street North, 9th Avenue South and 22nd Street South, outside George Ward Park, and along 13th Street North between 1st and 2nd Avenue.

As the heat persists, the city urges everyone to check on vulnerable neighbors and take full advantage of these free resources.
