Saks Fifth Avenue at The Summit in Birmingham will close this spring as part of Saks Global’s bankruptcy plan.
Luxury retailer Saks Global is closing eight Saks Fifth Avenue stores nationwide, including its only Alabama location at The Summit in Birmingham. The closures follow Saks Global’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in January 2026, aimed at restructuring the company’s debt.
Saks Fifth Avenue Closure at The Summit
The Birmingham Saks Fifth Avenue, located at 129 Summit Blvd, has served shoppers since 2001. It will remain open until the end of April, giving customers time to shop before the doors close permanently.
Nationwide Store Closures
In addition to The Summit, Saks Fifth Avenue stores closing this spring include locations in:
Polaris Fashion Place, Columbus, OH
American Dream, East Rutherford, NJ
Shops at Canal Place, New Orleans, LA
Bala Plaza, Philadelphia, PA
Biltmore Fashion Park, Phoenix, AZ
Stony Point Fashion Park, Richmond, VA
Utica Square, Tulsa, OK
Neiman Marcus will also close its Copley Place store in Boston as part of the same restructuring plan.
What This Means for Shoppers
The closures mark a major shift for Saks Global, which operates both Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus stores. Customers in Alabama will no longer have a local Saks Fifth Avenue, making the April closure a significant moment for Birmingham shoppers seeking luxury retail.
