Savage’s Bakery is set to reopen in Homewood on March 16 after being purchased by Kenneth Rhodes, owner of O’Carr’s Delicatessen. The historic bakery had closed after 87 years, leaving the community saddened.
Preserving a Homewood tradition
Rhodes announced that Savage’s Bakery will join the O’Carr’s family of businesses, keeping its original recipes, name, and goodwill intact. “We are incredibly excited to announce that Savage’s Bakery is now part of the O’Carr’s family! Yes, that means Savage’s is reopening,” Rhodes said.
He emphasized that the bakery’s legacy will continue for future generations, maintaining the same quality and traditions that made Savage’s a staple in Homewood.
Continuity in recipes and service
Rhodes plans to operate Savage’s Bakery just as former owner Van Scott did. “Everything is exactly the same. He (Van Scott) is teaching me everything that I need to know to carry it on,” Rhodes shared.
Customers can expect the same baked goods, flavors, and community-focused spirit that have defined Savage’s Bakery for decades.
Welcoming the community back
The reopening will restore a beloved part of Homewood’s culinary scene. Rhodes and his team look forward to serving customers for everyday treats, holidays, and special occasions, continuing the bakery’s 87-year legacy.
