Mayor Woodfin marks 100 days of third term, highlights ‘Cradle to Career’ progress

One hundred days into his third term, Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin reports measurable progress across the city.

His “Cradle to Career” agenda prioritizes children, ensuring every policy, investment, and decision considers their future.

Measurable progress in public safety and economic development

Mayor Woodfin’s administration has reduced homicides by 75 percent compared to last year and cleared every homicide case. Robberies are down 26.7 percent, aggravated assaults 30.1 percent, and total violent crime 31.8 percent.

The City received a $2 million SEEDS Act grant to transform the Western Corridor into a logistics and manufacturing hub. Initial work includes a master plan and environmental studies at the former U.S. Steel Ensley Works site, creating jobs and diversifying the economy.

Supporting small businesses, food access, and neighborhoods

The Entrepreneurship Center for Growth and Excellence launched to provide resources, capital access, and technical assistance for Birmingham small businesses.

Through the Urban Farmer Grant Program, the City awarded $100,000 to 10 local farmers, expanding food access and supporting urban growers. Street resurfacing projects are nearly complete, and the traffic calming application process now gives neighborhoods a stronger voice in requesting safety measures.

Youth initiatives and leadership focus

The Black Male Initiative launched to improve outcomes for boys and men ages 8–14 through community-driven early interventions. The Birmingham Youth Sports League now offers athletic, mentorship, and academic programs rooted in character, excellence, equity, teamwork, and accountability.

Mayor Woodfin also announced cabinet and departmental leadership changes to reinforce accountability and performance. Residents can view the full team at www.birminghamal.gov/woodfin100.

Looking ahead, Woodfin emphasized accountability and trust, promising continued focus on neighborhoods, families, and children as the administration moves forward.
