Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee opens in Five Points South

A new coffee shop has opened in Birmingham’s Five Points South area, bringing an internationally sourced coffee brand into the Highland Avenue corridor.

New Coffee Spot Opens on Highland Avenue

Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee has opened inside the Cortland Vesta apartments at 2173 Highland Avenue. The shop is now serving customers in the Five Points South neighborhood and nearby Highland Park area.

The business has been operating in a soft-opening phase for about a month and plans a formal grand opening in mid-May. The shop currently operates Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with plans to extend hours once the official launch takes place. Management also expects to add Sunday service and introduce lunch options, which could extend operating hours into the late afternoon or early evening.

Ethically Sourced Coffee and Community Focus

Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee builds its brand around direct relationships with coffee farmers in Rwanda. The company supports fair wages and invests in community development projects, including education and infrastructure improvements in farming regions.

The brand operates more than a dozen locations across the United States, including shops in states such as Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Utah. Birmingham’s location joins this growing network while also aiming to serve as a neighborhood gathering place.

Local management has also expressed interest in connecting with Birmingham businesses and community organizations to strengthen its local presence.

Growing Presence in Five Points South

The new café adds to the ongoing development of the Highland Avenue and Five Points South corridor, an area that continues to see new retail and dining activity.

Manager Kerrick Jordan, a Birmingham native, said the goal is to create a space that combines quality coffee with a strong sense of community. Plans for expanded hours and additional menu items are part of the shop’s next phase as it settles into the neighborhood.

Residents and visitors can find the café at 2173 Highland Avenue, where it is now open and serving customers throughout the week.
