A well-known Texas-style barbecue food truck has opened a permanent restaurant in the Birmingham metro area. The new spot brings Central Texas flavors to McCalla.
Food Truck Growth Leads to Restaurant Opening
Austin Whereabouts now operates a full restaurant at 6530 Pocahontas Road in McCalla. Owner Johnny LaFoy launched the business as a food truck in Hueytown. Over time, the concept built a strong local following.
Because of that success, the team decided to expand into a physical location. In addition, the business earned “Food Truck of the Year” twice from the Hueytown Chamber of Commerce. That recognition helped build momentum for the expansion.
Menu Focuses on Central Texas BBQ Favorites
The restaurant serves traditional Central Texas barbecue with smoked meats prepared on-site. The menu includes brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs, beef ribs, turkey, chicken, and sausage.
One standout item is the Texas Twinkie. It features jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese and brisket. Then it is wrapped in bacon, smoked, and finished with house sauce.
In addition, the menu offers sandwiches and combination plates. The Texas Trinity plate includes brisket, ribs, and sausage. Banana pudding is the only dessert option, and it keeps the menu simple.
Local Response Supports Continued Growth
Customers have responded positively since the opening. Many visitors followed the brand from its food truck days. As a result, early traffic at the new restaurant has stayed strong.
The owners say the move marks an important step for the business. It also reflects a broader trend in the Birmingham area. Food trucks continue to grow into permanent dining locations as demand increases.
