Nmosa Fabrics Expands Its Presence in Woodlawn
Nmosa Fabrics has moved just a few blocks from its previous storefront, now operating at 5528 1st Avenue North in Birmingham’s Woodlawn neighborhood. The business previously spent more than five years at 5501 1st Avenue North before relocating to its new space.
The shop specializes in custom alterations, tailored fashion pieces, and unique fabric selections. Its inventory includes textiles sourced from around the world, giving customers access to distinctive materials not commonly found in standard retail stores.
A Business Built on Craft and Personal Design
Nmosa Fabrics was founded by Theuda Tusajiwe, a longtime seamstress with a background in custom clothing design. She began sewing garments in a small Walker County town where fashion options were limited, creating outfits for herself and others in her community.
That early experience developed into a business focused on handcrafted design work and personalized fashion services. Today, the Woodlawn storefront continues that approach by offering made-to-order pieces and alteration services for a wide range of customers.
New Location and Daily Hours
The updated location allows Nmosa Fabrics to remain close to its original customer base while expanding its visibility in the Woodlawn area. The shop is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., providing consistent access for fittings, consultations, and fabric browsing.
The move reflects continued local growth for small creative businesses in Birmingham’s fashion and design sector.
