New Children’s Retail Space Opens in Birmingham

Books-A-Million unveiled its expanded Kids-A-Million area at its Colonial Brookwood Village location in Birmingham. The updated space covers about 8,000 square feet and sits inside the retailer’s flagship store.

Company leadership said customer interest in children’s books and products helped guide the redesign. The goal focused on building a more engaging environment for young readers and families. The new space highlights books, toys, games, and learning materials in a dedicated section of the store.

Family-Friendly Grand Opening Events

The store marked the launch with a full day of activities for children and families. Events included storytime sessions, face painting, LEGO building activities, character meet-and-greets, and interactive games.

Popular characters such as the Cat in the Hat and Junie B. Jones appeared during scheduled events. Visitors also took part in raffles, giveaways, and themed activities throughout the day. The first wave of shoppers received special promotional items, including Dr. Seuss-themed gifts and prize entries.

The celebration also featured entertainment, snacks, and hands-on activities designed to encourage reading and creativity. Store staff and community partners helped guide activities and engage with attendees.

A Dedicated Space for Young Readers

The redesigned Kids-A-Million area transformed part of the store’s second floor into a kid-centered destination. The section featured thousands of children’s books along with toys, educational tools, and popular brands such as LEGO, Disney, and Dr. Seuss.

The space also included kid-sized furniture, themed displays, and expanded educational resources. Store representatives said the design aimed to support learning, creativity, and family engagement.

The flagship location also planned ongoing programming, including storytimes and in-store events led by staff and community ambassadors. These activities aimed to keep young readers engaged beyond the grand opening.
