A popular downtown Birmingham restaurant has temporarily closed its dining room for the summer season, with plans to reopen later in the year.
Temporary Summer Closure Announced
Carrigan’s Public House has paused in-person dining service for the summer. A recorded phone message confirms the temporary closure, and the restaurant’s website notes a planned reopening around Labor Day.
Customers seeking updates or private event bookings are directed to contact the restaurant through its official website. As of now, the business has not issued additional public comments beyond its posted announcements.
Downtown Staple With Local History
Carrigan’s has been a fixture in downtown Birmingham since 2013. It originally opened on Morris Avenue before relocating to 1913 3rd Avenue North inside The William, a renovated historic building.
The building dates back to 1905 and was once a furniture store before becoming a mixed-use development with residential apartments and commercial space. It now includes 27 apartments and continues to serve as a hub for dining and urban living.
The restaurant’s name honors both the historic character of the building and the family legacy of owner David Carrigan.
What Comes Next
The dining room is expected to reopen on Labor Day, according to the restaurant’s website. Until then, operations remain limited while the space undergoes its seasonal pause.
Carrigan’s remains a recognizable part of Birmingham’s dining scene, and its return is anticipated by regular patrons later in the year.
