A new neighborhood hub is coming to Southeast Lake, offering local goods, fresh food, coffee, and a convenient stop near Ruffner Mountain.
Providers General Store Coming to Southeast Lake
Providers General Store is taking shape at the former Ruffner Relics site at 8039 Rugby Avenue in Birmingham.
The new shop plans to serve as a gateway for visitors heading to Ruffner Mountain. It will also give nearby residents a new place to shop and grab a meal.
Owner plans call for a soft opening in late October 2026. The full opening is expected in November.
The store will focus on products from local makers and small-scale producers. Its offerings will include fresh produce from
Greater Birmingham micro-farms, handmade soaps, candles, crafts, pantry staples, and groceries.
Humble Pie Cafe to Serve Coffee and Meals
Inside Providers General Store, Humble Pie Cafe will offer coffee, breakfast, and lunch.
The cafe will serve Ruffner Mountain visitors before or after a day on the trails. It will also provide another dining option for people living in the surrounding neighborhood.
Providers General Store will include space for community activities and special events. Plans also call for a makerspace connected to an artist residency program.
The concept goes beyond a traditional general store. It aims to create a place where local producers, artists, residents, and visitors can connect.
Local Team Renovating Former Ruffner Relics Site
The former Ruffner Relics property is undergoing a major transformation with help from Birmingham-area creatives and construction professionals.
ArchitectureWorks is handling the architectural work. Prier Construction is leading construction, while Fran Keenan Design is working on the interiors.
Tatum Design created the store’s logos. Andrew Tynes of Mammoth Murals will coordinate hand lettering for the building and windows.
Once complete, Providers General Store and Humble Pie Cafe will bring a new mix of shopping, dining, art, and community programming to the Ruffner Mountain area.
The businesses are expected to fully open in November, giving Southeast Lake a new neighborhood destination before the holiday season.
