Giuseppe’s Café in Birmingham was named Alabama’s best “hole-in-the-wall” pizza spot by Mashed, drawing new attention to the long-running Southside favorite.
A national spotlight on a local favorite
Mashed, a food website that ranks standout pizza spots in all 50 states, selected Giuseppe’s Café as Alabama’s top “hole-in-the-wall” pizzeria. Writer Scott Harris-King praised the restaurant’s old-school style and simple, nostalgic appeal. He said these types of pizza places often feel like a return to “a better time,” which adds to their charm.
Why Giuseppe’s Café stands out
Giuseppe’s Café, located at 925 Eighth St. South, opened in 2002 and built a loyal following over more than two decades. Locals often call it a hidden gem because of its small dining room and family-style atmosphere. In addition, the menu includes classic pizzas like Margherita, Hawaiian, and veggie, along with signature options such as the Giuseppe’s Special and Greek Delight.
More than just pizza in Southside
Beyond pizza, Giuseppe’s also serves pasta dishes, subs, and daily lunch specials. For example, guests can order baked ziti, chicken pesto linguine, or lasagna with garlic bread. Meanwhile, desserts like cannoli, tiramisu, and limoncello cake round out the menu, keeping regular customers coming back for more.
