Mayor Woodfin names leadership team for third term

Mayor Randall L. Woodfin has introduced the leadership team that will guide his third term in office.

 

Returning Members of the Administration

 

Several senior officials will continue in key roles. Cedric D. Sparks, Sr. will remain Chief of Staff. Ed Fields will continue overseeing strategy, partnerships, and communications. Melissa E. Smiley will lead economic and community development. Chaz Mitchell will manage the city’s financial operations while guiding sports and entertainment initiatives.

 

New Leadership Additions

 

Three new leaders will join the administration this term. James Fowler will oversee public infrastructure following his service as director of the city’s transportation department. Dr. Sylvia Bowen will become Deputy Chief of Administrative Services, bringing extensive experience in civic innovation. Carlton Peeples will step into the role of Deputy Chief of Public Safety after nearly three decades in federal law enforcement.

 

Preparing for the Third Term

 

Each appointee brings a strong record of public service and leadership. Their combined experience supports the mayor’s priorities in safety, neighborhood revitalization, government operations, and economic opportunity. These appointments take effect on November 25, 2025, the first day of Mayor Woodfin’s third term. Additional announcements are expected soon.
