City shares resources for families affected by SNAP disruptions

Birmingham residents affected by the recent SNAP disruption now have access to a central hub of support resources.

City Launches Resource Clearinghouse

The City of Birmingham has created a comprehensive listing of food, utility, and financial assistance options through its BHAM READY website. The hub also highlights community events and opportunities for residents who want to offer support. All information is available at birminghamal.gov/bhamready.

Supplemental Relief Funding Announced

To help households experiencing delayed or suspended SNAP benefits during the federal shutdown, the city has committed $1 million in local relief. Birmingham, in partnership with United Way of Central Alabama, is now accepting pre-registration forms for those seeking assistance.

Eligible applicants will receive a $100 gift card per SNAP account. Residents must live within Birmingham city limits and have been SNAP-eligible as of November 1, 2025.

Pre-registration is available online or by texting SNAP to 62644.
