A longtime outdoor apparel brand is restructuring under bankruptcy protection, and its Leeds outlet is preparing to close.
Eddie Bauer outlet in Leeds posts closing sale
Eddie Bauer – The Outlets of Grand River has posted “store closing” signs along with discounts ranging from 40% to 60%. The location sits at The Outlets of Grand River.
It remains unclear how long the store will stay open. However, signage indicates a full liquidation is underway. The brand also operates an Alabama outlet at Tanger Outlet Center.
Parent company files for Chapter 11
Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in New Jersey. According to reports, the retailer reached an agreement with lenders to auction its brick-and-mortar operations.
The company carries more than $1 billion in debt and lists less than $500 million in assets. Despite the filing, about 180 retail and outlet stores across the U.S. and Canada will remain open during the court-supervised sale process.
Marc Rosen, CEO of Catalyst Brands, said the restructuring aims to preserve value and maintain liquidity. He described the move as necessary to stabilize operations.
Century-old brand faces third bankruptcy
Eddie Bauer launched in Seattle in 1920 as Bauer’s Sports Shop. Over the decades, the company grew into a national name known for rugged outdoor clothing and gear. At its peak, the retailer operated more than 600 stores nationwide.
This filing marks the company’s third bankruptcy in just over 20 years. As the restructuring unfolds, the future of individual store locations—including Leeds—will likely depend on the outcome of the auction process.
