A Homewood restaurant space is changing hands as a New York-style deli concept moves into a location previously occupied by a pizzeria.
Sanpeggio’s Closes After Five Years in Homewood
Sanpeggio’s Pizza has closed its Green Springs Highway location in Homewood after operating there for five years. The Birmingham-based New York-style pizza chain is stepping away from the site as the business landscape continues to shift in the area.
The closure marks the end of the pizzeria’s run at 803 Green Springs Hwy. However, the space will not remain empty for long.
NY Deli & Juice Bar Expands Into Alabama Market
A Georgia-based concept, NY Deli & Juice Bar, is moving into the former pizza location. The business focuses on New York-style deli food and beverages, offering a different dining experience for the Homewood area.
Founder Mohammed Nagi, a New York native, said the expansion into Birmingham was influenced by the region’s strong interest in authentic New York-style cuisine. He also pointed to the city’s connection to Atlanta as a factor that supports regional growth opportunities.
New Concept Adds to Local Dining Changes
The transition reflects ongoing changes in Birmingham-area restaurant spaces, where new concepts frequently replace long-standing tenants. The shift also highlights continued demand for fast-casual and specialty food offerings in suburban markets like Homewood.
As a result, the former pizza location will reopen under a new identity, bringing a deli-focused menu to the area.
