Homewood has a new destination for handmade noodles, dumplings, and authentic Szechuan cuisine.
Foo Hai Opens in Homewood
Foo Hai Handmade Noodles & Dumplings is now serving customers at the corner of 29th Avenue South and 19th Street South in Homewood.
The restaurant is a new concept from Chef Hai Wang and Gary Lin, the founders of Urban Hai in Midtown Atlanta.
The team first announced plans to bring the Atlanta-based restaurant concept to Birmingham in 2024. Plans for Foo Hai became official in March 2026.
The new restaurant is located at 1903 29th Ave S, Suite 101, Homewood, AL 35209. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Authentic Szechuan Dishes and Chef Specials
Foo Hai features a menu inspired by the Szechuan dishes served at its sister restaurant, Urban Hai.
However, Birmingham diners can also find several chef specials that are not offered at the Atlanta location.
The menu includes a variety of handmade and traditional Chinese dishes. Some of the standout options include scallion pancakes, sweet and sour pork ribs, and Sichuan dandan beef.
Other choices include braised chicken hot pot and brown sugar rice cakes. More noodle, dumpling, and Szechuan dishes round out the menu.
A New Concept From Urban Hai’s Founders
Wang and Lin opened Urban Hai in Atlanta in 2022. The restaurant quickly became known for its upscale take on Chinese cuisine.
Their plans for a Birmingham-area location followed two years later. Now, Foo Hai gives Homewood diners a chance to try the team’s cooking closer to home.
The restaurant combines the flavors and techniques associated with Urban Hai with a separate menu created for Foo Hai. As a result, returning diners can find something different while still experiencing the team’s Szechuan-inspired cooking.
