AHSAA taps longtime CBS 42 anchor Scott Griffin for top role

A longtime Birmingham-area broadcast sports journalist has been named the next director of communications for the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), marking a major leadership transition within the organization.

Scott Griffin named AHSAA communications director

The AHSAA announced that veteran broadcaster Scott Griffin will take over as its next director of communications. Griffin, best known for his long career in Birmingham sports media, replaces Ron Ingram, who retired after serving in the role since 2007.

Griffin brings more than 45 years of experience in sports coverage, including his time as sports director and anchor for CBS 42.

Career built on Alabama sports coverage

Griffin has covered high school, collegiate, and professional athletics across Alabama, including SEC and national championships. He also worked in radio and television across Birmingham and serves as a commentator for Samford University and Jefferson County schools athletics.

A University of Alabama graduate, Griffin was previously recognized as Alabama Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association.

AHSAA highlights experience and statewide impact

AHSAA leadership said Griffin’s deep ties to Alabama sports media and understanding of high school athletics made him a strong fit for the role.

Officials noted that his communication experience and long-standing relationships across the state will support the organization’s mission of promoting and covering prep sports.
