Talmai Owen Vickers Sr., the longtime leader of BHT ReSources, has died at the age of 76. The company confirmed his passing, marking the loss of a third-generation executive who helped shape one of Birmingham’s historic businesses.

Talmai Owen Vickers Sr. began working with the company in 1965 and later became chairman, CEO, and president in 1985.
Under his leadership, the business—formerly known as Birmingham Hide & Tallow Co.—expanded operations across multiple Southern states, including Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
The company specializes in sustainable rendering, cooking oil processing, and resource recovery services. Vickers played a key role in modernizing operations while maintaining the company’s long-standing presence in the region.
Career and Background
A native of Lebanon, Tennessee, Vickers earned a business administration degree from the University of Alabama in 1971.
In addition to his work in the resource recovery industry, he was also involved in real estate development, with projects spanning Alabama, Florida, and Colorado.
