Birmingham residents seeking affordable housing opportunities will soon have a chance to apply for public housing through a limited-time waitlist opening later this month.
Application Window Opens June 22
The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) announced that waitlists for one- and two-bedroom public housing units will open from Monday, June 22, at 10 a.m. through Friday, June 26, at 4 p.m.
During this period, eligible residents can submit applications for available housing opportunities. The waitlist opening applies only to one- and two-bedroom units and does not include larger housing options.
Multiple Ways to Apply
Applicants may complete and submit their applications online through the HABD website during the designated application period. Residents who prefer in-person assistance can also apply at any HABD public housing site between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. while the waitlists remain open.
Housing officials encourage interested applicants to prepare ahead of time and ensure they meet eligibility requirements before submitting an application.
Eligibility and Assistance Available
Public housing programs are designed to provide safe and affordable housing for qualifying low-income households. HABD determines eligibility based on several factors, including annual household income, family status, citizenship requirements, and criminal background screening.
The agency will also provide assistance to individuals who need help completing the application process. Residents who require accommodations due to age, disability, or other circumstances can contact HABD directly for support during the application window.
