Milam & Co. Construction is relocating its headquarters to Trussville following a deal to redevelop a long-vacant industrial property.
Milam & Co. Plans New Trussville Headquarters
The Birmingham-area construction firm will move its offices to Paine Industrial Park in Trussville.
The company plans to occupy 20 acres of a nearly 49-acre property. The site includes the former Goldkist plant on Will Pond Road.
Trussville City Council recently approved the sale of the property for $764,000. B4 Development is purchasing the site and will oversee the demolition of the vacant plant.
Once the demolition is complete, Milam & Co. will establish its new headquarters on part of the property.
Vacant Goldkist Plant Set for Demolition
The former Goldkist plant has been vacant for more than a decade. Trussville purchased the property in 2012 with plans for a carpet company to move into the city.
That project never came together. Since then, the site has remained unused despite interest from potential developers.
However, demolition has been challenging. The property includes multiple buildings and concrete walls that are about three feet thick.
The planned demolition will also create additional development opportunities on adjoining property.
Trussville Industrial Park Gets New Development Opportunity
The Milam & Co. headquarters move marks another step in the redevelopment of Paine Industrial Park.
The project will give the long-vacant Goldkist property a new purpose. It could also help open more land for future commercial and industrial development.
Milam & Co. currently operates from its headquarters on Alton Road in Birmingham. The company’s planned move will bring its offices to Trussville as redevelopment moves forward.
