Joyland has permanently closed its Birmingham location, ending the Nashville-based restaurant’s run in Avondale after nearly two years.
Avondale Location Serves Its Final Customers
The fast-casual restaurant officially closed on August 2, 2026. Joyland operated at 3719 Third Ave. South in Avondale, in the former home of Rodney Scott’s BBQ and the historic Bottletree Café.
Founded by Chef Sean Brock in Nashville in 2020, Joyland became known for its retro-inspired atmosphere and elevated comfort food. Popular menu items included the Joyburger Deluxe, the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Joy sauce, and the signature Crustburger.
The Birmingham restaurant opened in partnership with Pihakis Restaurant Group and Southall Farm as the brand’s third location.
Part of a Series of Restaurant Closures
Joyland’s closure follows a difficult year for several restaurants connected to Pihakis Restaurant Group. Earlier in 2026, multiple Hero Donut and Rodney Scott’s BBQ locations also closed across the Birmingham area.
In addition, both of Joyland’s Nashville restaurants permanently closed in mid-July, ending the concept’s operations in its home market before the Birmingham location closed.
Thank You to the Community
Following the announcement, Joyland’s general manager thanked customers for supporting the restaurant throughout its time in Birmingham. He expressed appreciation for the relationships built with guests and the community during the restaurant’s operation.
Although Joyland is no longer serving customers in Avondale, its closure marks the end of a restaurant concept that introduced Birmingham diners to a unique take on classic American fast food.
