Homewood getting new Cajun-inspired sports restaurant

A popular sports bar chain is expanding its Birmingham-area footprint with a new restaurant planned for Homewood.

New Restaurant Coming to Former Rodney Scott’s BBQ Site

Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux has announced plans to open a new location at 2701 18th Street South in Homewood. The restaurant will occupy the former home of Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ, which closed earlier this year.

The new location will become Walk-On’s fourth restaurant in the Birmingham metro area and its ninth in Alabama.

Former Alabama Quarterback Joins Ownership Team

The Homewood restaurant will be led by franchisee Matt Roth along with former University of Alabama quarterback, former NFL player, and current Crimson Tide Sports Network commentator John Parker Wilson. Birmingham business leader Adam Baxter is also part of the ownership group.

Walk-On’s is known for its Cajun-inspired menu, featuring wings, gumbo, seafood platters, steaks, pasta, tacos, burgers, po’boys, and other casual dining favorites.

Continued Expansion Across Alabama

The Homewood location is part of Walk-On’s broader national growth strategy. The company expects to open up to 10 new restaurants in 2026, bringing its total to more than 80 locations across the country.

The new restaurant also brings fresh activity to a property left vacant after Rodney Scott’s Whole Hog BBQ closed in April amid a series of restaurant closures involving Pihakis Restaurant Group.

An official opening date for the Homewood location has not yet been announced.
