Homewood could soon welcome a new outdoor putting course and entertainment destination after the city’s Planning Commission recommended the project.
The Woods Golf & Social Gets Planning Commission Support
The Homewood Planning Commission voted 7-0 on August 4 to recommend The Woods Golf & Social.
The proposed 18-hole outdoor putting course would sit at 504 and 508 Scott Street in West Homewood. The site is located between Oxmoor Boulevard and Oxmoor Street.
Homewood residents Owen Ferguson, Jack Dorough, and Tommy Donaldson are developing the concept. They hope to create a new gathering spot that combines recreational activities with food, drinks, and entertainment.
More Than a Traditional Mini-Golf Course
The Woods will offer a putting experience designed to feel closer to a real golf course than traditional miniature golf.
Arizona-based Putt Tek will design the course. The company specializes in outdoor putting courses that replicate the look and feel of actual greens.
The development will also feature a clubhouse, grand lobby, entertainment lawn, covered patio and bar, party cabanas, and a full-service bar and grill. A large outdoor TV wall will provide another space for sports viewing.
The project includes 22 parking spaces as well.
Tournaments, Live Music and Community Events
The Woods plans to offer more than casual rounds of golf. The owners hope to host tournaments and leagues for different age groups.
In addition, the venue could hold live music, trivia nights, game nights, and sporting events. These activities would give West Homewood another option for group gatherings and local entertainment.
However, some residents and commissioners raised concerns about potential noise. In particular, they questioned how late the venue could operate.
With the Planning Commission’s recommendation now secured, the project can continue through the city’s approval process.
